On Day 69 we celebrate Michael Jordan’s greatest scoring performance. Jordan’s 69 points came just hours after the publication of a local Cleveland newspaper article about Craig Ehlo’s ability to guard the NBA’s scoring champion. It is seldom wise to poke the bear. When the bear is Michael Jordan, you’re a real idiot. Poor Craig Ehlo…
Hours later, Ehlo and Jordan were jogging up the sidelines together…
“Listen man, I’m hitting everything, so I’m gonna tell you what I’m gonna do this time and see if you can stop it. You know you can’t stop it. You know you can’t stop this. You can’t guard me,” Jordan said. “I’m gonna catch it on the left elbow, and then I’m gonna drive to the left to the baseline, and then I’m gonna pull up and shoot my fadeaway.”
MJ proceeded to catch the ball at the left elbow, drive left to the baseline, and pull up for a fadeaway jumper in Ehlo’s eyes. Even knowing what Jordan was going to do, the mortal Craig Ehlo was no match for the basketball-god among that was Michael Jordan and neither was anyone else who guarded him that night or frankly anyone ever.
Lenny Wilkens, throw a double team at this man!
Jordan averaged 33 points per game in the 1989-90 season, but he seemed to save the special sauce for the Cavs whom he averaged 44 against.
All 69 of Jordan’s points can be seen below. Oh… and he had 18 rebounds too. Enjoy!
